on the morning of May 7, 1915 - probably while people were having coffee and reading the morning news , the people on the the Lusitania, the fastest civillian liner afloat, was hit by 2 German torpedos off the coast of Cobh, Ireland and the ship was under water 20 minutes later. 1,200 civilians died. Germany justified the attack on grounds that the British government intended to arm merchant ships effectively causing the U.S. to enter WWI. there. your breif history lesson for the day.
